Training Sessions

Abstract

Since the early 2000's, Housing First has been national policy and the leading evidence-based practice on how to end homelessness on a personal and community wide scale. And yet homelessness has been on the rise in recent years. This training will discuss the program model and service philosophy of Housing First. And discuss why our homeless response systems, at a local level, are not scaled to address the complex housing needs of our clients. The conversation will also unpack the further need to expand the concept of Housing First to integrate with our behavioral health system of care. The session seeks to educate care providers on their role in addressing housing inequity and learning how best to interact with their local housing-based systems.

Objectives

  • Understanding the service philosophy and program model called "Housing First" that is the evidence-based approach to ending homelessness
  • Unpacking the how the homeless response system functions currently and why your referrals don't often lead to stable housing outcomes
  • Contemplating what an integrated care system of stable housing, homeless services, and behavioral health could look like in your community
