Implementing a Compassionate Care Approach for People with Substance Use Disorder

Abstract

Talk will review the approach to treating people with substance use in a compassionate manner while empowering them to improve their quality of life. To review the Evidence Bases Practice of MOUD, to review the stigma surrounding the SUD, to review the implications of hypoxic brain events and those effects on the care plan, and to include patient care with STI and BC counseling & care.

Objectives

  • Identify barriers to treatment for pregnancy women who use substances
  • Discuss stigma of substance use to mother-child dyad
  • Discuss risk of hypoxic brain events including short- and long-term effects
  • Discuss reviewed whole patient care including STI and BC
  • Describe treatment options with compassionate and patient center approach.

ACCREDITATION

PHYSICIAN (CME)

The University of Pittsburgh designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

NURSING (CNE)

A maximum of 1.0 nursing contact hours will be awarded. Participants will be able to claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the program.
