Cost of Caring: Building Resilience through Self-Care

Abstract

Self-care takes awareness, balance, and connection. At times, it seems almost impossible to give it the attention it requires amidst our busy lives. Yet, self-care is an essential competency and especially important for individuals who provide support and care to those who have experienced significant adversity and trauma. Self-care is not something that should wait for the weekend. It is a set of practices and skills that can be strengthened and are unique to each of us. This session will explore building blocks of resilience and specific strategies such as mindfulness, self-compassion, and gratitude to promote wellbeing and compassion satisfaction.

Objectives

  • Recognize the cost of caring
  • Understand Domains of resiliency
  • Identify practical self-care techniques
  • Explore value-driven health-habit strategies
