Training Sessions

Abstract

This session explores the concept of implicit bias and its impact on interactions between communities and law enforcement. Attendees will learn foundational understanding of how unconscious attitudes and stereotypes influence perceptions, decision-making, and behavior, often without conscious intent. Real-world scenarios, and interactive exercises will help increase self-awareness, and promote equitable practices. Understanding implicit bias contributes to more effective policing and stronger, more respectful community relationships.

Objectives

  • Define implicit bias and distinguish it from explicit bias.
  • Recognize how implicit biases form and how they may influence behavior and decision-making.
  • Identify common examples of implicit bias in policing and community interactions.
  • Reflect on personal biases and their potential impact on professional conduct.
